Friday Favorites

For Friday! Link up with me!

1) Early Voting. I made it to my church during lunch this week to participate in my civil duty. It was a breeze getting in there. Five minutes later I walked out with my sweet “I voted touchscreen” sticker. Wam bam thank ya ma’am!

2) Moving Day. Today is moving day. Today, I’m trying to understand why I thought moving was a good idea. Today marks the day when I realize how many boxes my life can fit into – 45. Kidding. More like 3.

3) Day Light Savings ends Sunday. Even though the mornings are dark and the evenings are darker, I’ll enjoy that extra hour of sleep wrapped up in a warm blanket dreaming of sugarplum fairies.

4) Holiday decorations. I’ve never been one to decorate. It’s a waste of time, money and closet space. Somehow, this year, I’m itching to get into Hobby Lobby and Michaels to hunt down some good decorations. I think this may have to do with Pinterest. I blame Pinterest for all of my DIY, food and decorative tendencies. Add wedding ideas to the list and I become one crazy nut job.

5) Wedding Venue. High five for hopefully making a decision on where we’ll get married. We’re off to another venue on Sunday and if this doesn’t work out then I’ve got the perfect backup plan. It’s not really a backup. It’s more of a verification that I was right in the first place and should have gone with my gut. Darn gut! Always stirring me in the right direction! You’ll read more about this on Wednesday.

I think this Friday deserves 2 high fives. We officially made it through another week. Boy, I’m livin’ the dream! Let’s get to my 5 favorites from the lovely Lauren of From My Grey Desk.

{ONE:} I registered and started a team for the Colon Cancer Alliance Undy 5000 5K run/walk in October. The participation was a no-brainer considering one of my dear friends was diagnosed with colon cancer a few weeks ago. The outpouring of support has been so surreal and completely amazing. I’ll have a separate post about all the details next week.

{TWO:} I felt like a rebel this week. The Photo A Day challenge is coming to a close tomorrow. Wednesday’s photo was “bathroom.” There was no way I was going to find something creative in that room. Sorry, but not sorry. I ended up taking a photo of the light fixture in the bathroom. I simply bent the rules a smidge. Or did I? I wasn’t about to take a picture of the sink/shower/toilet or the many products I use to make this face look glam.

{THREE:} I’m greatly looking forward to the weekend. This week has been a slow one and I’m in need of a little pick-me-up. Cue the lake. Saturday will be filled with sun, swimming and fireworks to finish the night off. It’s going to be good.

{FOUR:} I’m closing in on my 100th post! Exciting, right? I’m coming up with ideas on what I should post. Any ideas from the peanut gallery?

{FIVE:} July is going to be a great month. We’ve got our wonderful Independence Day as well as many other awesome plans in the works. I’m running another 5K on the 15th and later that week I’m heading to the biggest honky tonk for some Texas country music and two-steppin. We’ve also got back-to-back baseball games the last weekend in July. It’s going to be the perfect weekend of beer and baseball. Now that’s my kinda month!

What up, Friday?! I’ve missed you. Truly.

Today, I’m linking up with Lauren over at From My Grey Desk to bring you High Five for Friday. Essentially, HFF is a link up where we discuss our five favorite things. Friday Favorites 2.0.

Yesterday, I came across a new scarf. I had bought it several weeks ago and completely forgot about it. Case in point, I wore it this week. Don’t you just love coming across something in your closet you forgot you owned. It’s like you just went shopping. Weeeeeee.

Dear sinuses and allergies,
I dominated you this week. You’ve got nothing on my immune system. Booyah! Tea, soup, zyrtec, thanks for doing your jobs. Peace be with you.

Oh Panera, how I love thee! I ate at Panera on Wednesday before class. It’s a smidge pricey, but you are so worth it. However, you may think Panera is healthy, but when you check out their nutritional facts online, the calories add up. I made sure my meal didn’t. Up for devouring: half a veggie mediterranean sandwich with black bean soup and an apple.

Instagram finally came to Android! That’s what’s up yo! I’ve actually only had my Android for about a month and before that I was using my iPod for Instagram pics. I’m most excited about this because of the picture quality. My iPod took pretty grainy photos and the Instagram filters just exasperated this. My Android has 8 megapixels which is definitely a step up. Follow me homies: amberlb88

I read over 50 blogs (everyday) and I have a few that are my favorites. I read them and get to know the bloggers behind the blogs as much as possible. So, when I get actual tweet mentions from one of my favorites who then introduces me to another growing favorite of mine, I geek out! I mean I was grinning ear to ear and I nearly fell out of my chair when my phone buzzed at me saying Erin from Living in Yellow had tweeted me back.

To make matters even more awesome, I got mentions from Jessi over at Naptime Diaries, whom I have recently fallen in love with. She has the sweetest babies and the cutest Etsy shop EVER! As you can see this was nearly two weeks ago, but it still makes me a happy camper.

P.S. I just bought this print from Jessi and you should go check her out, too!

I’ll be honest with you. I can’t seem to write this post. I’m tired and simply frustrated and frustration is NOT what I want to discuss for my Friday Favorites. So, I’m going to keep this short and sweet today.

I don’t watch too many television shows. I find that there are many other productive things to do with my day/life than sitting on my duff watching something. But, I must tell you I have my favorites that have stuck with me from season 1 episode 1.  It’s sharing time!

Glee: This is a total guilty pleasure. I’m almost embarrassed to admit it. I get sucked in week after week with all that singing and dancing. What I love about the show is they provide real life problems of teenagers and the struggles and triumphs they have during their confusing teenage years. Oh and I have to add that I may or may not dance and sing along with them on Tuesday nights. Just sayin.

Mad Men: Season 5 premiere is March 25th! About 6-8 months ago, I was hearing good things about Mad Men. Since the show was on hiatus for a while, I thought I would get all the seasons and sit down for some good entertainment. This is a fantastic show. Based around the advertising world in the early 60’s, Mad Men is filled with adultery, deception and lots of booze. It’s a fantastic mix worth watching over and over again.

Game of Thrones: Game of Thrones is an HBO series based on a medieval fantasy novel series by George R. R. Martin. It tells the tale of 7 noble families fighting for power. You see greed, love, courage, cowardice, and more adultery than Mad Men. It hooks you in from the beginning when you’re introduced to zombie like creatures inhabiting beyond the “wall,” a monstrosity made of ice to protect the many nobles from what lies just north. It’s such a fantastic plot. The second season starts April 1st. The best part? The first season comes out on DVD on March 6th. Guys! That’s next week. Woohoo!

Always Sunny in Philadelphia: This show is raunchy and weird, but I can’t stop watching it. From Dee carrying a trannies child to “who pooped the bed” episode to the many weird antics that take place in Paddy’s Pub. It’s so wrong it’s good. The cult following is awesome, but most people say  you either love it or hate it. I choose the former.

Modern Family: I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like Modern Family. The show centers around a dysfunctional family that would make even my family blush. I love the story lines and the belly laughing comedy. I love that each character has grown to own their own personalities on the show and each one delivers flawlessly. It’s awesome!

All of these shows are broadcast on different networks: Fox, AMC, HBO, FX and ABC. Huh. I get around. Have a wonderful Friday lovies!

Oh man! I’m so glad it’s Friday. After three days at a Conference in Fort Worth, I’m ready for the weekend. So, I thought I would introduce to you today my favorite place to buy eye wear. Warby Parker sells glasses, sunglasses and even a monocle online. A few weeks ago, I got mine in the mail.

I was not compensated by or affiliated with Warby Parker in anyway.

Here’s the Warby Parker process:

1. Visit their site.

2. Upload a photo of yourself and start trying on glasses, “virtually.”

3. Pick out up to 5 pairs of glasses and add them to your “At-home” try-on kit. Provide a credit card number. *They don’t charge you. They just need a credit card in case you keep the home try-on glasses and don’t send them back.*

4. You’ll receive your glasses within a week. Model them. Show them to friends, family members, strangers. You can even take photos, like me, then upload them to Warby Parker’s Facebook page and you’ll receive feedback from Warby Parker staff themselves!

5. Send the glasses back within 5 days of receiving them.

6. Choose your glasses. I found this difficult, so I did 2 at home try-ons.

7. All glasses are just $95. Nothing more. Nothing less.

8. Order them and you’ll receive them in about 2 weeks.

I needed glasses when I entered the 9th grade. I couldn’t see the board. I never liked glasses much. I hated the frames and they got dirty easily. By the time I got into college, I had persuaded my mom to let me try contacts. I generally like contacts, but they get dry and sometimes I just want to wear glasses. I haven’t gotten new frames or a new prescription for my glasses in about 5 years. It was time for an upgrade.

What I love so much about Warby Parker is that they really care about their customers. I was able to keep in touch with them through Twitter and Facebook. Oh my gosh! I’ve forgotten the best part! For every pair of glasses you buy, they give a pair to someone in need. Yes, just like Toms. I love this idea. Go check them out. I’ve been very pleased with mine. I’m much more confident in these frames. My older frames I would only wear at home and now I’m comfortable wearing my new frames anywhere.

Now, go check them out! Do it!
