Foodie Pen Pals

Happy Saturday ya’ll!

It’s the last day of June so it’s time for another Food Pen Pals reveal. I had such a good time in May that I thought I would give it a go this month as well. And I certainly wasn’t let down. Jolynn from Lift Pray Love did such an awesome job with my package.

Jolynn! I love your handwriting!

We had a good conversation as to what I liked. I informed her that I like hunting for local foods and that I’m a novice runner looking for good running fuel. Let’s get to the inside for all the goodies.

What some of you may not know is that I lived in Iowa when I was younger.  I’m familiar with all the small Amish communities there. Years ago, my dad, brother and I would head to Amana, IA every once in a while to pick up local foods and check out the amazing little shops. The Amish seriously know how to make, bake and create. This package reminded me of this sweet memory. I love knowing that we can all support the local community. Plus, the food is usually awesome!

The List:

Turtle Acres Strawberry Jelly: I absolutely love this jelly. It’s homemade with no sugar added. The ingredients? Apple, pear, strawberry and kiwi! YUM!

Larabar Uber Bananas Foster: This was eaten immediately. I was pleasantly surprised how delicious it was.

Archer Farms Cinnamon Vanilla Nut: This flavor sounds absolutely amazing. I make coffee every morning before work so this will definitely come in handy.

Homemade Apple Butter: There’s three ingredients: apples, apple cider and spice. It’s nice to have something that’s so naturally. Plus this comes from one of those Amish villages that I love so much.

Honey: Joe loves honey so this will be gone very soon. I love honey, too, so it’s a win-win.

St. Dalfour Kumquat Jelly: I haven’t tried this, but I’m always game for trying something new.

Granola: I add granola to yogurt and cottage cheese. It’s got that little crunch that makes any food just a little bit better. The granola is all gone. I downed that pretty quickly.

Nail Polish 🙂 How awesome is Jolynn for included some nail polish? And the color is awesome. I think I say awesome on here too much. I’m currently wearing this color. Thank you, Jolynn!

*Not shown cuz I’m a noob* Flavored honey sticks: She included some flavored honey sticks. I haven’t tried these, but she suggested topping some ice cream with them. Will do!

Thank you so much, Jolynn! You did such a great job putting the foodie package together. I truly loved everything!

Isn’t this such a fun little bloggie project? If you’d like to join, go visit Lindsay at the Lean Green Bean for more information. And here’s the premise straight from Lindsay herself: In case you’re a new reader, here’s a reminder of what the program is all about:

-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.

-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!

-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!

-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)

-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.

-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

Come join the party! Now, go check out what I sent to Heather at Living it Write.

I’m so excited to finally share with you my first month with Foodie Pen Pals by Lindsay at Lean Green Bean. Foodie Pen Pals is a fun way to get to know new bloggers and experience new foods. It’s a really cool idea and this month was my first go at it.

The Lean Green Bean

My package came from the wonderful Kyria over at Travel Spot. That girl knows how to make a foodie package. She asked me all sorts of questions about what kinds of food I liked and disliked. We also discussed our similarities and love for running. I was definitely anticipating the arrival of the package.

I opened the box to find this sweet note.

How adorable are those notes with the lemons? Note to self: buy some nice note pads. I really got into the good stuff after I read that note.

The attention to detail was great. She gave me lemons from her lemon tree, homemade trail mix and a recipe for white bean chili. She included little peanut butter treats and chocolate since those are my absolute weaknesses.

The full list of goodies included:

-bag of fresh lemons
-Extra Dessert Delights Apple Pie gum
-Chocolate
-Peanut butter Larabar
-Luna Bar
-Justin’s Maple Almond Butter
-Cool Mint Chocolate Clif Bar
-Sport Beans (running fuel)
-Cherry Shot Bloks (running fuel)
-Luna Bar
-2 Emerald Almond packages
-Homemade trail mix
-Bag of Rice chips
-Overnight oats
-White Bean chili ingredients and recipe

Whoa! How awesome is she? She did a fantastic job. If you want to join for June, you have until the 4th to sign up. And go check out my package I sent to Barbara over here.
