TWD: Hungarian Shortbread

I’d like for you to picture a beautiful day. You’re sitting on a patio. You’re sipping your beverage of choice. You begin to get a hankerin for a sweet treat that goes with said beverage.

I have that sweet treat for ya today. And boy, would I love to be sitting on a patio drinking coffee or iced tea. I couldn’t decide, so in my scenario I have both.

This, my friends, is hungarian shortbread. Don’t ask me what makes this hungarian because my guess is as good as yours. If those hungarians like sweet treats then I won’t argue.

One for me. One for you. We’ll share the fork. Or you’re welcome to do what I do. Stand over the pan in your kitchen and use your fingers all while glancing over your shoulder. No one will get in my way. But to each his or her own really.

I ended up using a cherry preserve from the grocery store. I didn’t have the time or patience to deal with a pound of rhubarb. I do love rhubarb though. When it’s in season, my step-dad makes a rhubarb pie that is to die for. Most of my family doesn’t like it though, so my mom and I sit at the table scarfing it down straight from the pie pan.

Head on over to the hosts of the week. Lynette of 1smallkitchen and Cher of The Not So Exciting Adventures of a Dabbler obliged. Thanks so much guys. So head on over to their lovely blogs for the full recipes.

Your pictures are beautiful and the shortbread looks inviting.

    • Thanks so much! I got the plate from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. I think that really helps bring out the other colors of the shortbread. It’s a great recipe, too.

  2. Oh, your bars look gorgeous! I think your cherry preserves are a lovely contrast with the shortbread…and so much prettier than rhubarb 🙂

    • I’m glad you like the photos. The shortbread really turned out great.

  3. Oh my goodness that plate is beautiful! Like I’ve said before you and your camera take amazing photos. Can’t give you all the credit, ;-). Glad you’re back safe and sound in the states! Loved all your Europe pictures.

    • Haha. Thanks. Get ready for Paris and Amsterdam posts 🙂
